A Portrait of a Woman
2024-2025
glass, 61×91 cm each, edition of 5+AP
This series of three self-portraits documents my journey through two preventive surgeries, oophorectomy and double mastectomy, performed due to a hereditary genetic mutation. By placing myself in front of the camera at the most vulnerable moments of my body’s transformation, I wanted to affirm my right to remain visible, countering the frequent invisibility of women’s medical stories.
Through these works, I aim to reclaim my own agency and celebrates my queerness in her newly formed body. One of the portraits is a tribute to British artist Sarah Lucas, referencing her 1996 self-portrait with fried eggs.
