Forty Thousand Possibilities
2020
The video contains 40,000 options that an automated face recognition tool offered for 200 faces, which I tried to identify from my collection of 105 unknown photographs. This collection became a basis for an installation titled Loose Photos, Odds and Ends. The National Archives of Estonia is developing a face recognition tool (ILME) based on the digitalised photographs in their collections and offers 200 images per each face inserted into the program. I have put all of these possible matches together into one video, which runs on a loop and creates an overwhelming effect due to the number of images presented.
